TECH sets up a Project Management seminar

The North-East island of Sri-Lanka, suffered many disasters as a consequence of the war. Due to this, no special institutions were established to teach project management: a course that is essential, for the successful management of operations, running the nation. In this war stricken island, which was further affected by the tsunami, there has been a greater need for professionals with the expertise and knowledge, in order for operations and projects to be successfully implemented.

TECH recognised the importance of an institution to be set-up, which would be reputed for its valuable project management courses. Before TECH got involved into this project, there were very little resources and expertise in this field. These courses would give individuals the accreditation that employers can place their trust in. In the North and East, there are many local and international NGOs (Non-governmental organisation), and hence they need people with the skills and knowledge to be able to manage their projects.

The London Sustain organisation collaborated with TECH on 2 nd July 2005, to kick-start the seminars. Mr. T. Prathab headed this event. In the opening ceremony, Executive Director, Mr. Suganan, hosted the national flag. Others who were involved in the opening ceremony include Mr. M Suntharamoorthy, Mr. Kunaratnam, Canada TECH – Mr. Williams, Ms. Gayathri, London Sustain representative Mr. Armila and also Mr. Joseph.

Several students were selected from numerous NGOs. They were then divided into six different groups, in which they attended different seminars. This course will give the students a broader perspective to project management, in the sense that knowledge and skills they acquire from this course can be applied to the future project management.
