Seminar in building construction
On 6 th July 2005, Professor Sittharthan from USA held a seminar at TECH. His class objectives were to teach the science behind cracks and crevices: focussing on how these cracks develop in buildings, and how to avoid them. His structural advice offered in these lectures would prove essential to those listening, since the audience of these seminars, were those who have a background in construction, and are interested in improving and developing the construction industry. These cracks and crevices arise due to structural failure and bad planning, and hence the aim is to rise above this.
The seminar was structured with an interactive session, in which the Professor allowed questions to be asked. He described typical structural problems faced in the architecture of buildings in north and east. Towards the end, the participants of the seminar asked questions about geotechnical scenarios.
Mr. Muralitharan, Professor Navarataraja and TECH chairman, all participated in this event. The professor Raja Sittarthan lit the ceremonial lamp. Mr. Mathy accepted the honour of raising the Tamil Eelam national flag. This event also involved everybody observing a two-minute silence, to remember the heroes who bravely died. TECH director Mr. Sugunanan ended the event with his vote of thanks.
