Target Group: Fishing families affected by the Tsunami in Mullaitivu district

Outcome:
Fishing restored to normalcy of sorts – catching enough fish for local consumption and for marketing as iced fish to the rest of the country

Justification:
The coastal fisher families were devastated by Tsunami. 3,104 families were displaced to welfare centers. Most of these people lost their houses, all their possessions and one or more family members.

There are immediate needs for resettlement and income generative activities. For the time being they will depend on welfare centers for their meals and shelter but not for long. So we have to provide them with fishing gear and necessary equipment to restart their fishing activities.
